Dr. Steven Engelsman Grant
Dr. Steven Engelsman said farewell to the National Museum of Ethnology in Leiden on 25 April 2012. During his twenty-year directorship he always maintained good relations between Leiden University and the National Museum of Ethnology, thus anchoring ethnographic research in the museum. Upon his farewell as general director of the National Museum of Ethnology, he was honoured with a five-year Grant in his name. The Grant represents the bond between the University and the Museum. The Fund for Ethnology in Leiden (FEL) has decided to double the Grant and Dr. Engelsman and his wife chose to increase the Grant to an annual amount of € 6,000.
The proposed budget can contribute to translating or submitting an article or exhibition review; organizing a lecture, conference or workshop; or presenting a poster or paper abroad. Applications are reviewed by a four-member committee, consisting of the head of research of the National Museum of Ethnology, a rotating member of Leiden University, an associate of the Fund for Ethnology in Leiden and Dr. Steven Engelsman. The first successful Grant applications were announced on 30 November 2012.
