Call for proposals
Intangible cultural heritage, Museums and Participation
Museo internazionale delle marionette Antonio Pasqualino (Palermo, IT)
February 27 & 28, 2018
IMP invites museums to submit their inspiring examples on the topic of Intangible Cultural Heritage and Participation.
The active involvement and consent of members of communities, groups and individual practitioners of intangible cultural heritage (ICH) is a central feature of the UNESCO 2003 Convention on the safeguarding of ICH . This entails that practitioners of intangible heritage should actively participate in all safeguarding efforts that relate to the living heritage practices they want to transmit to future generations. The International conference and Expert meeting taking place in Palermo will focus on the role that museums could play in this process of dialogue, of renegotiated roles and shared decision making.
IMP is looking for contributions about projects, practices and programs that have as a strong and inherent feature the active participation of practitioners of intangible heritage in relation to the safeguarding of their living heritage practices (in the domains of (i.a.) oral traditions; performing arts; social practices, rituals and festive events; knowledge and practices concerning nature and the universe; or the knowledge and skills to produce (traditional) crafts). These projects, practices or programs, taking place in the context of a museum, are preferably initiated by ICH-practitioners and supported by museums , but museums could also have been the initiative takers .
By completing the online submission form , elaborating on your inspiring example, you can submit your application for attending the two-day meeting in Palermo. The members of the IMP Steering Group will assess the submissions and inform you by January 8, 2018 whether your proposal is accepted.
Participation is free of charge. Applicants can find out more detailed information about the subscription modalities in the Guidelines .
Deadline for submissions: 20.12.2017
